$10 million Artificial Kidney Prize KidneyX, a partnership between HHS and the American Society of Nephrology, has launched the $10 million Artificial Kidney Prize. KidneyX is particularly interested in biological engineering expertise, and expects that many participants will come from outside nephrology. Multidisciplinary teaming opportunities are available..

Prospective entrants are encouraged to sign up for a webinar on January 12 on kidney functionality and technical considerations for artificial kidneys.

  • It is open to both U.S.-based and international participants, subject to eligibility requirements. Achieving competition goals will require a broad range of scientific expertise and collaboration among innovators.
  • Seeking diverse, transformational proofs of concept. Phase 1 calls for component or integrated solutions that can advance the functionality, effectiveness, or reliability of artificial kidneys.
  • Phases 1 - 2 will award up to $10 million in prizes. Additional phases may follow Phase 2, and KidneyX hopes to secure total prizes of $200 million.
