IBE Brahm and Sudha Verma Lifetime Visionary Award

The Brahm and Sudha Verma Lifetime Visionary Award was established in 2005 to honor the visionary contribution of Brahm Verma and his wife Sudha Verma. In addition to providing vision to the Biological Engineering profession and discipline through the formation of IBE in 1995, Brahm Verma was the first President of IBE and has been unwavering in promoting biology-inspired engineering.

The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual who through their multifaceted works has articulated a sustained vision for the discipline and profession of biological engineering. A recipient of this Award is not required to be a member of IBE, and an Award is given only as deemed appropriate.

Nominations for the Brahm and Sudha Lifetime Visionary Award should be made by no later than November 1 to the chair of the Awards Committee. The Awards Committee serves as the Selection Committee and is also expected to be observant for individuals warranting such recognition, and solicit nominees for the Award. The nomination materials should include
  1. a nomination statement (of no more than 2 pages) which addresses the objectives of the Award, and
  2. letters (each of no more than 2 pages) from three thought-leaders in the biological engineering community who can communicate on the extraordinary vision of nominee. At least, one of the letters should be from a current member of IBE.
The Selection Committee, in consultation with the President and previous Award recipients, will select an Awardee by December 1.

The Awardee will be invited to the IBE annual meeting in the Spring for the presentation of the Award and make a presentation on her/his vision for biological engineering.
